“He should play the final two games against Rangers” – Pundit on defender

As readers know, I am impartial to a little bit of Clyde 1 Superscoreboard. One main reason is some of the callers that contact the show can give some “out there” opinions on where it goes wrong, or what they would do to solve a crisis. But sometimes, just sometimes you get a little nugget of an idea that makes you think to yourself, “Well we all know that!” and this is one of those times.

On last nights show, pundit Hugh Keevins, says the Celtic rebuild must centre around three players in the current Celtic squad. Three players that have emerged from the ashes of this burned out season and shone like a beacon of hope to the Celtic supporters.

Keevins advises that the future Celtic team from next season should be built around David Turnbull, Ismaila Soro and Stephen Welsh, “If you have Shane Duffy who unfortunately for Shane has had an awful time since coming here on loan from Brighton, you have a player who is actually unnerving the other defenders around about him. Then you have in Welsh and Ajer. A partnership that looks as if it’s got a bit of mileage in it.”

You can’t really argue with that. In particular Turnbull and Soro have been a revelation since getting their opportunity this season and both have grabbed it with both hands.

Keevins also went on and said that young Welsh should be given a chance to strike up a partnership with Ajer and, more contentiously, should also be first pick for the remaining Glasgow Derby matches, “Go with it. When the rebuild starts, it has to be about Turnbull and Soro and players like Welsh. So I’d be all in favour of keeping Stephen Welsh in the team, combining him with Ajer, even in the two games that remain against Rangers assuming them both fit”
