Just yesterday this site’s contributor, Daniel Devanney, wrote about how former Dundee United goalkeeper Benji Siegrist may not be a good move for Celtic.

If Celtic do decide to go for the out of contract star, he would fundamentally be a back up option for Joe Hart.

But his former manger, Micky Mellon, has claimed that not only would Siegrist be

Speaking to the Daily Record [via The Sun], Mellon said, “Siegrist is a great keeper, a fantastic guy with a top work ethic too.

“He would be a great signing for Celtic because he has the ambition and character to do well there. There would be absolutely no problem with Benji ‘s temperament – he can handle playing for Celtic.

“With the amount of games they will have next season domestically and in Europe, they’ll need two keepers.

“All the big clubs need that to be successful now. And Siegrist alongside Joe Hart next season would give Celtic two brilliant options.”

Personally, I think Siegrist would be a great back up option as we are seriously lacking in quality options in that position as Joe Hart’s 54 appearances last season does seem to suggest that Ange Postecoglou doesn’t have that much confidence in the current back up option of Scott Bain who made just four appearances for the club last season.
