Yuki Kobayashi’s capture has been met with widespread approval by the Celtic fans.

The Japanese defender, when he joins, will bring some much-needed balance to the Celtic back four.

But not only that, he will also add competition as we now have three viable centre-backs looking to earn their place beside Cameron Carter-Vickers.

Moritz Jenz and Carl Starfelt have done an excellent job for Celtic but it does seem that even they will need to up their game if they are hoping to remain Ange’s first pick moving forward.

But there is one man who seems to have been forgotten in all the hype over the last few weeks and that is on-loan defender Liam Scales.

Scales is currently on loan at Aberdeen and has been performing well for Jim Goodwin’s men.

But does he still have a future at Celtic when his loan deal is up at the end of the season?

Hugh Keevins was speaking about Scales and the veteran journalist reckons Postecoglou will be well aware of the Republic of Ireland u21 internationals form for the Dons.

Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, Keevins said, “With regard to Liam Scales, I have no doubt Ange Postecoglou has watched every minute of every game that he’s played.

“He’ll make his mind up on Liam Scales in the fullness of time.

“He is still Celtic’s player. Ange Postecoglou’s knowledge of the Japanese market has, so far, been very helpful to Celtic.

“Only Ideguchi has yet to make any impression at the club.

“So, Kobayashi coming in will be welcomed by Postecoglou. Everyone will get a chance to see him in January.

“He will probably come in December and train with the squad which is a massive help for him and the team.”

To be honest, my own personal opinion is that Scales’ time at Celtic is over.

There is no doubt he is a very good defender but the signing of Kobayashi does seem to be the final nail in the coffin for Scales.

How good is your knowledge of the Martin O’Neill era?

I don’t think Scales was ever one of Ange’s choices and he’ll be sold to the Dons for a price that at least recoups our initial investment in the lad. Good luck to him.
