Transfers. Incomings, outgoings, it’s that time of the year that we call the silly season isn’t it?

Where speculation is rife and trying to sort out the good link from the bad to the downright ugly, trying to get any sniff of a proper transfer story is extremely difficult.

Especially since Ange Postecoglou took over.

The Aussie gaffer is an expert at keeping his cards close to his chest and it seems that in this upcoming transfer window he means to carry on where he left off from last January.

By making early signings.

Kobayashi is in. Johnston looks likely to come in and no doubt there could be one or two others that may join them.

But with these additions, trimmings must be made.

And it was one of Ange’s early summer signings of 2021 that is being tipped to move on after the capture of Yuki Kobayashi.

That’s according to journalist Aidan MacDonald.

Speaking on The Celtic Way podcast, MacDonald said, “I think it[the signing of Kobayashi] definitely spells the end for Liam Scales. I mean, it’s kind of that clear that he is down in the pecking order given that he went out on loan.

“I know he has been doing quite well for Aberdeen and it’s probably clear that it was, as he was scouted at the time, people were saying it was more of a centre back than an actual left back.

“So I think that probably spells the end for him.

“I doubt he would have came back in and been first-team regular even had that signing didn’t happen.

“But as I sort of said at the time that it is probably time up for him.”

And it’s hard to really argue with that.

Scales has no chance of dislodging any of our central defenders and with Greg Taylor on fire and Bernabei deputising for the Scotland international, it does look like time may be up for the Irish u21 international.

However, Liam is a good signing for Aberdeen and I like the idea that Aberdeen would be strengthened by signing him permanently.
