“He’s like Kieran Tierney” – Ex Hoops legend’s amazing praise for Celtic target

As Celtic look to strengthen the squad in time for the Champions League qualifiers in less than a fortnights time, former Celtic midfielder, Davie Provan, has made an astounding claim on one of the Hoops reported targets.

Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show, Provan likened young Aaron Hickey to former Celtic left back Kieran Tierney and admitted he has been a long term admirer of the young Scot, “Bologna are calling the shots. They’ve got boy in a long contract. So they dictate the price unless the boy has made it clear that he hasn’t settled and he wants back to Scotland.

“In which case that would open the door for Celtic to get him at better value if you like, better value for Celtic.

“If the boy has has told his club in Italy that he’s not settled and he wants to go back to Celtic. He’s a bit like Kieran Tierney isn’t he?

“I mean, the Scottish Cup final, he was 16 or 17 and started against Celtic. First time I had really watched him closely. And I couldn’t believe the composure and the assurance.

“The boy was at Celtic as a youth and slipped through the net and I’m not blaming anyone for that.

“But so ironic now they’re talking about paying three or four million for him.”

Stunning praise and if Celtic need to pay £4m+ for young Hickey then it would be money well spent. But is comparisons to Tierney really necessary at this stage?

Signing for the Hoops brings it’s own pressures never mind being compared to one of, now, the best players in the world.

I for one hope there is legs in this story because the young man is a class act. Kieran Tierney class? Only time will tell.
