As Celtic’s hunt for a left continues, there have been various rumours linking the club to different targets.

One rumour that seems to have legs in it is the Hoops pursuit of former Hearts full back Aaron Hickey.

With the Parkhead club reportedly having submitted an offer for the young Scot, former Rangers player, now pundit and agent, Craig Moore thinks Celtic could be making a mistake by going all in with a £3.5m bid.

Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show, Moore said,  “I didn’t really think Celtic were looking potentially for a left full back.

“Where you’ve got Taylor, who done a really good job, Diego Laxalt has gone to return back to his parent club. So seeing the kind of the rumours coming out about Aaron Hickey I mean there’s a couple of things.

“If Celtic apparently were sniffing about him before he went to Italy, they could have signed him.  They could have got him cheaper.

“I think probably the best option, if this was something that that Celtic were looking at, would be a loan option. Because then maybe with a view to at the end of the season, a loan option to buy.

“He’s a great talent. He’s a young lad, he’s still learning his craft, and I’m sure he’ll do a good job whether it’s continuing with Bologna or if he gets a movie elsewhere.

“But to spend £3.5m on such a young kid I still think at this time, a loan option would probably be a smarter way of business.

I think Moore is missing the point here. Celtic need to build for the future. A loan option at this time is definitely not the smartest move Postecoglou could make, especially after last season where so many of our loan players flopped.

£3.5m on a young Scottish talent who is, in my opinion, a first team ready player, is a smart move. He will only develop and get better. It’s a smart move, and one the club need to make quickly or they could end up losing out.
