How Hugh Keevins dragged Celtic fans into a story that has nothing to do with us

Can’t say I’m surprised to be honest.

In fact, let me start that again.

I woke up this morning and was surprised to see an article from Hugh Keevins slating the Ibrox club for their part in the price-fixing scandal that saw them being fined £225,000 this week.

Great, I thought.

It makes a change from the usual lambasting of Celtic we have had to endure from the veteran journalist, especially after his ridiculous comments after the 2-0 defeat to St Mirren.

You can read those comments in the four pinned pieces in the middle of this article.

So, as Celtic have never been caught up in a price-fixing scandal, there is absolutely no way we could be mentioned in this piece right?

Don’t be so daft now.

After six long paragraphs, rightly, slating the Ibrox club for their financial misdemeanour, Keevins then brought our club into it with this little belter, “And does anyone really believe Doncaster made it up when he said the market had been vigorously scrutinised before the contract was signed with Sky?

“It’s only two weeks since a former Rangers manager, Graeme Souness, told everyone no blue chip company would touch Scottish football ever again after Celtic fans disrupted the minute’s applause to mark the Queen’s death before their team’s game against St Mirren.”

What a bizarre thing to bring up in a piece about the Ibrox board being complicit in fleecing their fans.

And I guess he is made to look foolish anyway seeing as Sky (a blue chip company) has invested millions in Scottish football even after Bannergate.

So what was the point of the comment?

Just stick to the original story. You can criticise the Ibrox club without dragging Celtic into it. There is no need to balance up to curry favour with the blue half of Glasgow.

But that just doesn’t create enough clicks now, does it?
