There are times when I write these blogs and journalists and pundits talking about candidates for the next Celtic manager and I think ‘How out of touch are you?’.  Listening to last nights Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, the chat turned to the inevitable of who the incoming Hoops manager could be and whether or not current interim manager, John Kennedy, could actually take over the reigns.

Journalist, Roger Hannah, was informed by the host of the show, Gordon Duncan, that they (the show) just don’t receive any calls from Celtic fans backing John Kennedy for the role and Hannah hit out with this little nugget of a scenario that will leave Celtic fans dumfounded,  “I don’t think we can rule it out because as I said before the kick off on the show and Sunday, this is John Kennedy’s dress rehearsal to get the job.

“If John Kennedy, now goes and wins five games after the split, including at Ibrox in the second of May. If John Kennedy wins five games in the Scottish Cup and successfully defends the trophy and brings silverware back to Celtic Park. And remember, Celtic haven’t gone through an entire season without a trophy for the last eleven years.

Would you have John Kennedy as next Celtic manager?

YES

NO

“If John Kennedy can do that. I think it might be difficult not to give John Kennedy the job and I think that will be more Celtic fans coming on the phones saying ‘Yeah let’s give him a try’. The flip side of that, of course, as if he starts losing games, I think if he’s knocked out the Scottish Cup early. He’s got no chance.”

‘More Celtic fans coming on the phones saying ‘Yeah let’s give him a try’.  What planet do these guys live on? For qualified and professional journalists they are not half off the pace of thinking with the Celtic fans.

I have been running a poll since the 6th March asking visitors to my site on whether or not they think John Kennedy should become the permanent Celtic manager. The poll has over 14,000 votes and a whopping 93% of those that took part say “No”, Kennedy should not get the job.

Now I am a realist, of course this poll could be hijacked by rival fans to try and alter the results and if that is true, then you would imagine that the rival fans would be keen for Kennedy to get the job which makes the results even worse for him.

Kennedy is still riding high in the betting for the vacant position and it is yet to be determined what type of candidate the board are looking  for but it is fair to say that if Kennedy is appointed, the board will need to accept that season ticket renewal letters will, by the majority of the fans, be put straight in the bin.
