As soon as he signed for Shakthar you just know it’s written in the stars that Marian Shved will come back to haunt us.

After a disastrous spell at Paradise, the Ukrainian winger has now found his way back to his homeland and facing Celtic in the Champions League.

Apart from Brendan Rodgers and Neil Lennon not giving Shved a proper opportunity at the club, how did a clearly talented and young footballer find it difficult to make the grade at Celtic Park?

Speaking on the 67 Hail Hail podcast, Ukrainian football expert Andrew Todos thinks he has the answer.

Todos said, “Yes. He has had an unfruitful past three or four years you could say.

“The move obviously didn’t work out at Celtic, sad as it was.

“For whatever reason with the coach.

“I know that he’s had some psychological issues, homesickness, difficulty learning the language and being away from his family his girlfriend/wife and his daughter.”

And Celtic fans have seen first-hand at how factors outwith football can affect good footballers.

We only need to look recently at the likes of Shane Duffy and Vasilis Barkas as proof of that.

Both internationals and highly thought of before their ill-fated spell at the club was compounded with the COVID pandemic.

I just wonder how Shved would have fared if given the chance.

Let’s hope that it doesn’t come back to bite us tonight.
