“I love the player” – Former Hoops boss’ lavish praise for Celtic star

|

Former Celtic gaffer, Gordon Strachan, was waxing lyrical about Hoops midfielder, Callum McGregor, tonight in the post match chat on Celtic’s 1-0 home win over Aberdeen.  The win makes it five victories in a row for the Bhoys and McGregor’s surging run before passing to Turnbull for the opening goal of the season is typical from the midfield stalwart.

Strachan was very complimentary to the Celtic and Scotland star but he does insist that he is need of a rest as he is starting to look jaded.  Since season 2018, McGregor has made a incredible 151 appearances for Celtic in all competitions, and when you think take into account he has represented Scotland 26 times over the course of that period, Strachan is bang on the money.

Speaking on Celtic TV, Strachan commented, “You can rely on him. And he’s had a magnificent three and a half seasons. But I just think sometimes I think other people should be stepping up because I think when you are a player like that and everybody expects you to win the game for you there comes a point where you say, ‘Can somebody else take over’.

Does Callum McGregor need a rest?

YES

YES

NO

“Listen, I love the player,  I love the player, and I like the way he’s grown into being a man, what he had to do to become a player but I think he needs a we rest and let somebody else can take over.

“I think sometimes he seems a bit jaded because he’s had all this pressure on him for the last three years. It’d be nice he could relax and just go and enjoy the game without people going ‘Come on Callum, make us play‘ and I think it would be great if somebody takes over in that position”
