It feels like I am stuck in a time warp today. Every time I start to write an article I feel myself transported back to this morning and I am bringing to you yet another ex players opinion on who they think the next Celtic gaffer will be.  This one I think will spark up the interest of the Hoops fans and leave them shaking their heads in disbelief.

Former Celtic defender, Gary Caldwell, was a guest on last nights Clyde 1 Superscoreboard when he suggested that John Kennedy could be in contention for the Celtic managers job at the end of the season. It is a suggestion, in my opinion, that will horrify the majority of the Celtic fans as they look for a complete clear out of the old regime to allow the new one to bed in and take the club forward.

When host, Gerry McCulloch, asked Caldwell if the believed the opportunity to take the job full time would be made a possibility for Kennedy, he replied, “Yeah, I think it does. I think whenever you play any football game, manage any football game, then then it’s an opportunity to show what you can do. I have known John Kennedy a long time, he’s a fantastic guy. He’s been at the club a long time as a player as a scout, as a younger academy coach, as a first team coach and assistant manager, so he understands all the different facets of the football club.

John Kennedy for next Celtic manager?

YES

“Now he’s in the big seat, shall we say, and you’ll find out very quickly, he won’t be getting eight hours sleep anymore. He will have a lot of dilemmas this week in terms of packing the team, but I think the decision to give him it is the right one. I think he understands the club, it’s not too disruptive in a sense that somebody new coming in, and he can hopefully give the team that confidence and get a bit of pride back.

There is still a lot to play for in my opinion.  Whenever you pull on Celtic jersey, then you have something to play for because of the supporters around the world. You have to represent that club. So there’s a lot to play for and the two Glasgow Derby games will be will be vital in that regard.”

I genuinely can’t envisage a scenario where Kennedy will be offered the job with season ticket renewals due soon, but with this Celtic board currently in charge, you just never know.
