Ange Postecoglou is one of a kind, isn’t he?

I don’t think, at least in the last 25 years, Celtic have had a manager like him and I am 44 years old.

His ability to deal with the press, his knowledge of football and his knack of getting the best out players that seemed to be nearing the end of their careers is astounding.

Martin O’Neill-esque.

But Gordon Dalziel thinks there is a more recent comparison to be made of the big Aussie gaffer.

Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, Dalziel likened him to a former Celtic gaffer, Brendan Rodgers, “I think one of his strengths looking at him after these last five/six months is he has the ability to make players better.

“Look at Ralston, for instance, who we thought would be leaving.

“He’s signed a new contract and first pick, every week until he got injured.

“You look at Tom Rogic.  We thought he would be, probably, at the end of his career.

“He’s probably playing some of the best football he’s ever played.

“He’s improving players as well. He’s got players there that he’s working with. And he’s improving. I think that’s a big strength because Brendan Rodgers had a lot of pats in the back for that ability to do that. And I think Postecoglou’s the same.”

And who can argue with that?

The Celtic fans will be hoping that he brings the success Rodgers did, without the drama!

He’s a breath of fresh air Paddy and he’s light years ahead of his time I think. He’s got what this club’s all about right away as he’s an immigrant himself and I think he’ll do great things here. Let’s face it most of us had written this season off, so to be in the first cup final of the season and still in the hunt for the title is astonishing considering the state we were in in the summer. What he’s managed to achieve is remarkable in the time he’s been in the job, through in the injury list and it’s even more astonishing. I’m the first to admit I thought who’s this guy and I thought he was our Pedro appointment but I’m man enough to admit I judged him without knowing him and got things spectacularly wrong and that’s to my eternal shame. I feel he has to win on Sunday not just for him but it’ll give the player’s a massive boost and prove his system wins things. I hope Ange is here for a very long time and I just hope the board don’t mess it up in that regard, we lost Rodgers because they wouldn’t match his ambition and we can’t afford to do that again. It’s alright winning things domestically but the supporters deserve to see us make inroads in Europe too. If you take away 2003 in Seville we’ve failed to get to a quarter final since 1980 when we got robbed against Real Madrid in the Bernebau. You might be a bit too young to remember that right enough but for a club of Celtic’s stature that’s not acceptable.
