The goalkeeping position at Celtic over the course of the last couple of season is probably one of the most talked about.

From letting Craig Gordon leave to go to Hearts, to the disastrous signing of Vasilis Barkas, it seemed as though the Hoops were having no luck in that department.

Until the arrival of Joe Hart.

The former England international has brought stability and confidence to the back line of Celtic but what it also did was prompt youth academy prospect Ross Doohan, to find a loan move.

The Scotland u21 star is desperate to make the grade at Celtic and at 23 years old, finds himself way back in the pecking order.

Speaking to Football Scotland, young Doohan revealed, “I think the way I’ve come through the academy at Celtic it’s always been about playing out from the back, but there are different ways to do so.

“But I’m at that age where games are very important and the best place to learn is games.

“Things can be learned in training, but games are completely different.

“I’ve got both Woodsy (Stevie Woods) and Colin Meldrum texting me and giving feedback on what they think from games and clips.

“They told me it was vital to get game time down here at Tranmere and the experience through that, that was their main focus – me getting as many minutes as I can.”

“My main thing is I want to play for Celtic.

“I know I’m still quite young and it’s about playing week-in, week-out, but the aim in the future is to play for Celtic.”

And he certainly is getting the game time at his loan club Tranmere.

Since signing for them in August, Doohan has got almost 1200 first team minutes to his name.

Making 13 stars in 14 games, the young ‘keeper has been impressing with 6 clean sheets and a 70.7% shot save success rate.

At just 23 years old, Doohan has plenty of time to make his mark so let’s hope he continues his development at Tranmere and return to Celtic hungry to make the grade.
