“I thought ‘Wow’ when I saw that happening”- Outstanding praise for Scott Brown’s amazing gesture amid racism row

|

Celtic captain, Scott Brown, has been on the end of some commendatory praise for his solidarity gesture towards rival Glen Kamara during the warm up prior to the big Glasgow Derby on Sunday. Kamara was subject to racist abuse in Rangers last 16 defeat to Slavia Prague on Thursday night in an act that caused outrage not only for the Rangers team, but also for the whole of Scottish football.

Brown’s gesture impressed new Scottish FA Equality and Diversity Advisory Board advisor, Marvin Bartley, where he had nothing but glowing praise for the Celtic captain for his touching show of solidarity towards Glen Kamara during the warm up before Sundays Glasgow Derby.

Speaking on last nights Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, Bartley said, “What a touching thing to do. This one of the biggest rivalries in the world and after his team, by the way, losing the league to their bitter rivals. Some things are bigger than football and Scott Brown showed that yesterday.

“There is not a single person out there that couldn’t have sat up and thought ‘Wow’ like me when I saw that happening. And Scott Brown hasn’t done that for fame. He’s done it because he wanted to do that. Scott  Brown doesn’t need to get his fame off anybody else.

“That’s because he has a genuine concern and he’s heartbroken to see what’s happened to a fellow proffesional. And that’s a rival player, so rivalries get thrown away. When it comes to things like this and people are being racially abused, rivalry gets thrown away and Scott Brown is probably one of the fiercest competitors we have in the country.

“I think him doing that shows anybody else out there that there’s a huge problem, a massive problem, and if two rival players or a rival player can go over to another one and give him his condolences in terms of what’s happened, then we’ve got a problem, but it’s a problem we can all fix right”

Bartley was clearly moved and felt immense pride at how not only Scott Brown, but the whole of Scottish football, have stood shoulder to shoulder with Kamara.  But Sunday has shown Brown for what all Celtic fans have known for years, he is a class act and a leader of men.
