Writing articles about podcast shows is one of my favourite genres (is genres really the correct term here?) and one of my favourites to listen to to get different perspectives about all things Celtic is The Celtic Exchange. Host’s Tino, Miff and Chris give really good thought provoking opinions on different aspects of the club.

On this episode, the boys were talking about the prospect of a new manager until the conversation turned to who should be the replacement for outgoing captain Scott Brown when Miff spoke of an interesting rumour that was doing the rounds, “I saw the counter rumour that Lewis Ferguson was suggested as a possible replacement for Scott Brown. It seemed to be quite strong for him.

Tino seemed delighted with that suggestion, and even though Ferguson has a Rangers connection, he disregarded that fact as insignificant, “I would have been more than happy with that. I think  given he’s  young and that he has a lot of appearances under his belt so far. I think Celtic should always be looking to attract the best of the rest in terms of Scottish talent.

Will Celtic regret letting Scott Brown go?

YES

YES

NO

NO

“I think regardless of his family allegiances and who he may have supported as a kid, I think he’s a good pro, and I think he could come and do a very good job for us.

“It is one thing to replace Scott Brown in a football sense in terms of just getting a guy to sit at the base of the midfield and pull those strings. It is a completely different challenge to bring someone in to lead the dressing room and that is Celtic’s biggest challenge”

Ferguson is certainly building up a reputation as a no nonsense midfielder but he is also a very talented footballer. I agree with the boys that to unearth a leader of Scott Brown’s qualities is nigh on impossible, Ferguson would certainly give the midfield the same bite that Brown has but also will give young Ismaila Soro that competition he will sorely need to push him on next season also.
