The media is in overdrive with excitement at the news of Eddie Howe possibly becoming the next Celtic manager. With many fans expecting an announcement anytime now, A Celtic State of Mind’s Paul John Dykes, was speaking to Sky Sports about Howe’s suitability for the job and analysed Howe’s past record and made comparisons to ex manager Brendan Rodgers, “Of all the candidates I think Eddie Howe is the one who excites the Celtic supporters.  Not just because of a portfolio, but because of what he’s done in the game.

“There was a lot of talk over the last few weeks about Roy Keane. And from what I’ve been hearing from Celtic fans that wouldn’t have been a popular decision. I think Eddie Howe ticks all the boxes and I think he’s the best calibre of coach that we’ve been linked with during this period.

“I think when you look at his career down south,  and you look at the career of Brendan Rodgers prior to coming to Celtic. There’s lots of successes there. And a lot of people don’t realise. I mean three promotions, Brendan had one.

Should Eddie Howe replace Neil Lennon?

YES

NO

“Eddie Howe has managed a lot more games than Brendan Rodgers had when he came to Celtic, and he’s managed in the top league for more seasons and Brendan and we seen what happened to Brendan Rodgers.

When asked if Howe could handle the stature of managing a club like Celtic, Dykes admitted, “This is the only real concern. You see a lot of big names coming to Celtic, and you know it takes them by surprise. This is a club that needs to win every game. It doesn’t matter if it’s in the league, the cup, even in Europe, the fans expect to win every again.

“So has he been at a club with that kind of stature? He hasn’t yet. And I think people will say well, Brendan Rodgers was at Liverpool and obviously they’ve got a philosophy at Liverpool and that’s maybe the big difference.

“So we have to consider that. But of all the names have seen, Eddie Howe is a top of my list and I think he’s a top in many Celtic fans list.”

I have absolutely no concerns about Howe being able to handle the Celtic job. It takes a lot of mental strength and a will to win to take a club that almost fell out of professional football to back to back promotions, including winning the English Championship which is widely regarded as one of the most competitive leagues in the world.
