Another night another pundit/ ex pro linking an out of work manager to the vacant Celtic managers position.  Next up, ex Rangers and Scotland midfielder, Barry Ferguson, talks up the case for Paul Lambert.

Lambert has just left his position as manager of Ipswich Town, where the manager parted “by mutual consent“.

Lambert himself has already distanced himself from the position saying, “I had eight great years there and success there. I wouldn’t want to ruin that relationship I have with the Celtic supporters. Glasgow was my life a long time ago, I’ve moved on.

Who would you prefer as next Celtic manager?

But Ferguson, speaking on The Go Radio Football Show, alongside John Hartson and host, Rob McLean,  believes that if the Hoops board took the time to contact the ex Celtic midfielder, then Lambert will talk, “I’ve got to echo what John says there. He was a top player Lambert, there’s no doubt about that and he’s got the experience.  He’s managed some decent clubs, and but I understand that he doesn’t fancy coming back to the Glasgow goldfish bowl should we say, and but listen. I’m sure that if Celtic show a note of interest, I’m sure, Paul Lambert would be willing to talk to them.”

Lambert has managed a host of English clubs in his time, more notably Blackburn and Aston Villa but his only experience of Scottish football was way back in 2005 during an ill fated spell with Livingston.  I’m not so sur this would be a popular choice with the Celtic fans but only time will tell if the board do decide to make their move.
