As Celtic prepare to visit Hampden today for the crunch Premier Sports Cup tie against St Johnstone, gaffer Ange Postecoglou will be relishing the opportunity to take another massive step towards silverware.

And it would be a remarkable job if he can complete this feat.

After inheriting a shambles of a club that had no captain, no Head Scout and an unrecognisable first team squad, the Rangers support were jubilant as they assumed domestic dominance was assured for years to come.

They had never heard of Postecoglou. His appointment was mocked not only by their fans but also in some quarters of the Scottish media.

They’re not mocking him now though.

In fact, they are fearing him, and don’t let them kid you otherwise.

A Rangers fan called The Go Radio Football Show, and to be fair to him, was open and honest enough to say what I would imagine that most of the Ibrox hoards secretly feel, “If Celtic win tomorrow, which I anticipate we will, and it not be easy.

“They’re certainly favourites then we’ve got to win tomorrow.

“Because if Celtic, next month, are standing at Hampden lifting the first trophy of  the season after the turmoil they’ve had and the massive rebuild job that’s still ongoing under Ange Postecoglou then that’s a massive blow to us.

“Certainly psychologically.

“Because all of a sudden a lot quicker than anyone would have thought they’re back in business in amongst the trophies and we should be stopping that my opinion.”

They know they have a real challenge from Celtic. The know if they don’t up THEIR game and win tomorrow, then the ‘bottlers’ tag will haunt them this season as far as domestic cups go.

And you can bet that that self doubt will creep into their league performances.

Celtic are coming. They can feel it. Can they handle it?
