Celtic supporters are keen on making a move for Manchester City fringe player Jason Denayer, as the hopes of signing a new centre-back grow heading into the last few weeks of the transfer window.

It’s a position in Brendan Rodgers’ side that the club have not yet addressed, with the manager having to rely on the inexperienced Jack Hendry in UEFA Champions League qualifying so far.

Jozo Simunovic is suspended and Dedryck Boyata has yet to return from his summer break following an extended run at the World Cup in Russia.

In the short-term there’s urgency and that’s heightened supporters’ senses that a new defender is needed heading into what will be a long 2018/19 season.

One candidate for many fans is former player Jason Denayer, who spent a successful season on loan from Manchester City back in the Ronny Deila days.

He was a stand-out then, winning both the club’s and PFA Scotland’s young player of the year award.

Unlikely to have a future in Pep Guardiola’s squad, should the Hoops make a renewed effort to sign him?
