Out of all the amazing and wild theories I have read from the commentators, pundit’s, podcasters and bloggers, this latest one regarding the Ange Postecoglou appointment to Celtic beats the lot. Hands down.

When I heard it, I was thinking to myself, ‘This guy can’t be serious‘ but the more he spoke, the more I was willing him to shut up. But like a rubber-necker looking at a car crash I just couldn’t stop listening or wanting him to keep talking.

Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show, journalist Mark Guidi gave a fantastic theory (I know, fantastic is giving him too much credit, but it really was!) on what he thinks is REALLY going on at Celtic Park.

It is so outlandish I almost googled Mulder and Scully’s telephone number to get them to come and investigate the Celtic boardroom because this is a theory straight out the X-Files, “I’m bewildered by it all. I have to be honest. I said on the show last Monday night, and I’m not going to have a go or be respectful to Ange Postecoglou just because he’s a name I’m not familiar with.

“He’s got a good CV in that part of the world but in Europe there’s nothing. The UK, there’s nothing, I would never disrespect him because he’s been a manager for 20 years, so he knows his stuff.

Is Ange Postecoglou the man for the Celtic job?

YES

YES

NO

NO

“But in terms of coming to Celtic and the obstacles that are there, nothing adds up for me on it. And that’s not me being disrespectful to the guy.  I just can’t see where this comes from and where the sense is in it all.

“I’m baffled in terms of  having going to deal with UEFA in terms of allowing him to come and work in European Games. Training starts in June, the 17th.

“There’s a part of me that’s thinking is this guy just as just a soap opera and it’s killing time till Steve Clarke is finished with the Euros?

“Steve Clark could potentially be out the Euros in a fortnight. I hope it’s not I hope it’s a lot longer than that.  I don’t know. It’s just the Postecoglou thing. I just can’t get my head around it. It just  doesn’t make sense.”

But at least one thing in this incredible is correct, Guidi IS clearly baffled. To think that Celtic would come up with this dastardly plan to declare their target, release it to the press, and then fly half way over the world to negotiate his contract and compensation package with a Japanese club, to then lobby UEFA for a licence exemption to then declare Steve Clarke in two weeks time?

It’s a story that Scooby Doo and the Mystery Gang would be proud of as they pull off Dom McKay’s mask to reveal Lawwell as he says, “And I would have got away with it if it wasn’t for you damn kids!”.
