As we all start to pour over Sunday’s Glasgow derby, most people are in agreement that the 1-1 draw was a fair result.  A turgid first twenty minutes followed by a spell of dominance by Celtic which saw the Hoops go 1-0 up after some lovely link up play between Odsonne Edouard and Mohammed Elyounoussi in the twenty third minute.

But the real bone of contention came early in the second half were Edouard fell to the ground in what seemed like a fair penalty claim after a lunging challenge by Bornar Barisic but referee, Willie Collum, was having none of it and booked Edouard for simulation.

The boys from A Celtic State of Mind, Kevin Graham and Russell Boyce, were discussing the result and events of match when Russell had a furious rant at the performance of the match referee, “Once again, I have actually defended  Willie Collum at times as he’s just a poor referee. But yesterday, he didn’t even see it. He was standing behind a Rangers player. He made a call and what he actually saw is what he didn’t really see.

Did Willie Collum cheat when he denied Celtic a penalty?

“And yesterday, for me it was blatant cheating. Blatant cheating. It wasn’t even a bad decision, it was a blatant cheat. For me it’s penalty kick. You don’t need to make contact. The tackle was rash and uncontrolled. It’s a foul. It is a penalty kick. Any other league in Europe and it’s given as a penalty”

Russell certainly wasn’t happy with the referee and was clearly incensed as the decision ultimately cost Celtic the victory and ending the ridiculous press talk of their Glasgow rivals matching Celtic’s Invincibles.
