Midfielder Scott Allan looks like he is finally on the verge of a permanent Celtic exit, with Brendan Rodgers apparently keen on getting rid of him in the January transfer window.

Signing on a four-year deal in 2015, Allan has struggled to make the grade at Celtic Park and has been sent out on loan to three clubs since his arrival.

He’s had to sit out of first-team action this season though, with no move away materialising in the summer transfer window.

The playmaker hasn’t made a single Celtic appearance all year and was last named as an unused substitute back in July in the home win against Rosenborg.

The Scottish Sun report that Rodgers is hoping to offload the 27-year-old next month, with Hibs at the front of the queue.

Easter Road boss Neil Lennon told the paper: “Scott’s under contract. I don’t want to start headlines. He’s a player we like. These kinds of players cost a lot of money but if there was an opportunity there we’d look at it, obviously.”

Allan was always something of a strange signing, arriving after a stand-out season at Hibernian, but never really ever showing the kind of form that could have improved the Hoops midfield.

Hopefully he’s a better fit for another team and perhaps sending him elsewhere will free up some resources and allow us to focus on quality rather than quantity at the club.
