Jullien Still A Target For Clubs

Reports from Sky Sports reporter Antony Joseph to GiveMeSport suggest that there is still interest in Celtic’s centre back Christopher Jullien after a move to Schalke had broken down earlier in the pre-season.

Jullien has looked set to leave the club since comments he made at the end of last season regarding a lack of playing time under Ange Postecoglu, following the Frenchman’s return from cruciate knee injury which kept him out since December 2020.

Jullien, who will always be fondly remembered by Celtic fans after scoring the winner against the run of play in the 2020 League Cup Final has seen himself slip down the pecking order behind Cameron Carter-Vickers, Karl Starfelt and Stephen Welsh. With new arrival Mortiz Jenz further improving an already stellar defence, it seems opportunities for Jullien have diminished further.

Joseph reportedly told GiveMeSport that interest in the Frenchman is still high, particularly in Germany and especially France.

He told GMS: “I think Celtic were expecting clubs to come in for Jullien, they knew there was interest in Germany and France. I think there’s still interest in France in particular.”

With Celtic still in the market for a defensive central midfielder, they may well be willing to let Jullien go along with one or two other fringe players to pay for additional quality in the middle of the park.
