With the new season less than a week away, one of the most discussed talking points among the Celtic support is who will be our main centre-back partnership this season with both the new singing of Menz and impressive displays of Stephen Welsh during pre-season.
On the surface, this seems like an easy decision with both Carter-Vickers and Starfelt putting in fantastic displays with their partnership being vital in the Celts having the best defence in the country last season.
This is not enough to convince all of the Celtic fans with some calling for Welsh to play in place of Starfelt in the coming season.
This may stem from unfair criticism levelled at the Swedish international as some have still not forgiven him for his shaky start to his Celtic career despite an overall fantastic first season for the men in hoops.
When it comes to Welsh this is not an attempt to put his ability down, but we must not let sentimentality or the desire to see a homegrown talent succeed cloud our judgement.
Although he has proven to be an extremely useful squad player, I believe he lacks the quality to be a regular starter for Celtic if we want to match the ambition of the fans.
