Celtic fans have blasted Joey Barton after the former Rangers midfielder claimed he retired at the top level.
"I went out at the top level playing against Manchester United and Paul Pogba on the TV. It's not a bad way to end your career."
Joey Barton has no regrets about retiring from playing to step into management.

While it’s true Barton did return to Burnley in the English Premier League and played his last match against Manchester United, it came after an absolute failure of a move to Rangers in 2016, during which he was humiliated by Scott Brown, Brendan Rodgers and Celtic.
His ‘retirement’ also came about because he was banned from playing for 18 months by the FA for an infraction of betting rules.
Hardly going out in glory is it?
One of the funniest Celtic matches in recent memory was when loudmouth Barton and his much-hyped Rangers team arrived at Celtic Park in the early stages of the Brendan Rodgers reign, before being thrashed 5-1.
It came after proclamations from Barton he was going to put Scott Brown and the Hoops in their place. It didn’t quite work out like that, with Rangers eventually sacking him a couple of months later.
Celtic fans were quick to remind him of all this on Twitter this weekend…
Ended it in Scott Brown’s back pocket

You went out after the utmost humiliation in Scotland. You said you'd 'boss it' but you were put firmly in your place by the majestic midfield masterclass of Scott Brown.
You realised then you'd made a massive balls up and sloped back down the road embarrassed and washed up— Éire Go Brách CSC (@EireGoBrachCSC) November 18, 2018
This is the moment he was retired. You could tell he was desperate to win the drop ball and couldn’t. pic.twitter.com/2Sj4pChtjF
