After the summer Celtic have had in the transfer window, the amount of incomings and outgoings are enough to give you a sore head.

Losing top players like Edouard, Christie, Ajer and Ntcham (yes, Ntcham!) was always going to leave the side weaker but could you imagine if we had lost Callum McGregor as well?

Not worth thinking about.

But it seems interest in our captain was real as former Hoops star Mark Fotheringham revealed that Hertha Berlin were taking a close look at the Celtic midfielder.

When asked about Celtic’s upcoming fixture with Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League, as reported by London News Today,  Fotheringham revealed, “Callum’s a massively important player for Celtic.

“Bayer will be delighted if he’s not involved on Thursday night. Clubs in Germany are well aware of Callum.

“I know Hertha Berlin were very keen on him at one stage.

“I’m very concerned for Celtic without Callum. Him being out has highlighted how important he is to everything.

“They lack that football brain on the pitch.

“He’s a coach on the pitch. The manager can get messages to him and he’ll relay it to the rest of the players.”

Fotheringham has history working within the German Leagues and is currently a coach as FC Ingolstadt in the German second tier.

With Celtic about to face the might of Bayer Leverkusen without the heartbeat of the team, the Bundesliga outfit will be delighted at that news.

There is no doubt Celtic are significantly weaker without him, but as every Hoops fan knows, Celtic are a different proposition in Europe under the Parkhead lights.
