Looking Ahead To Shakhtar

With Celtic’s game against Livingston to be called off due to the death of Queen, although,  very disappointing not to see our team in action this weekend to continue our 100% domestic record hopefully.

It allows us, however, to focus on the prospect of our first away fixture upon our return to the champions league at Shakhtar Donetsk.

A major positive for the Celts is that although it’s an away game it is to be played at a neutral venue in Poland due to the continuing conflict in Ukraine.

This is of great benefit to the Celts who have notoriously struggled away from Paradise in European competition hopefully Shakhtar’s lack of home advantage and majority support may give us a slight advantage.

Although we gave an incredible account of ourselves against the European Champions this week, common problems that have always followed the Celts in Europe still plagued the team such as the inability to take chances we would normally take easily in domestic competition and then conceding goals in quick succession.

If we want to make our return to the Champions League successful, we must become more ruthless in front of goal in order to maximise our chances of progression in European competitions.

Even though the thought of a weekend without the Celts is depressing, at least we have the return of Champions League football to keep us on the edge of our seats.
