It was a highly anticipated debut let’s be honest.
Ever since the move was announced, hell, even when speculation was announced, the Hoops fans could not wait to see Maeda in action at Paradise.
We all saw the videos of the Japanese hitman on YouTube. We all could not wait for the J League’s top goalscorer to make his mark in Celtic Park and my goodness, did he ever last night?
It took Maeda inside just FOUR minutes to break his Parkhead duck and the scenes inside the stadium were just tremendous.
But it was the reaction across celebrity Twitter that also caused a ruckuss.
MMA fighter Molly McCann simply tweeted:
DAIZEN 🇯🇵 ☘️

and that attracted a lot of attention from the Celtic supporters.
In Japan, the Japanese striker was trending 13th in his homeland as his goal made headline news:
前田大然 (Daizen Maeda) is trending #13 in Japan.

And Celtic legends John Hartson and Chris Sutton both tweeted out their appreciation for the new boys debut goal.
What a start for new Bhoy Maeda 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Fast start from Maeda…

What is clear is that Maeda is huge in his home country and it seems that not only were the Celtic fans eagerly waiting on his first goal, the country of Japan was as well.
Postecoglou has pulled off a masterstroke in getting the Japanese internationalist to Glasgow and I, for one, cannot wait to see what he can do for the rest of the season.
