This name has already been mentioned before but as soon as it surfaces it gets laughed out the room pretty much instantaneously. The hunt for the next Celtic manager continues and the speculation is at fever pitch ever since Neil Lennon left his post just a few short weeks ago. Speaking on Talksport Drive, co presenter, Andy Townsend, made a curious case for the next Celtic manager when in conversation with  host, Adrian Durham.

The reasoning for this suggestion was not because he felt he was the right man for the job, or because of his managerial experience but simply because of our Glasgow rivals manager. It was a bizarre conversation with absolutely no context or footballing credence attached to it, Townsend made the suggestion simply for the circus factor that would surround the appointment, “Stevie G being an ex-Liverpool man, so you want an ex-United man… it’s Keano ain’t it?

“I tell you what the press conferences up there would be interesting on Fridays. Can you imagine?

“Celtic have now got to use the days and weeks ahead to get the right man in and make sure who they go for is certainly someone who can cut their deficit for what it currently is.”

“They need someone who can ask serious questions as to whether Rangers can hang on to the trophy next year.

“I do think that Celtic over the years have gone for a few spurious ones that I’ve never quite got my head round.

“I do think this is an important one because Rangers have got a coach that is hungry and ambitious and has a desire to win more.

“I think Celtic need to think long and hard for who they’re going to get in there.”

That last statement is ironic as clearly Townsend never put any thought into his reasonings why Keane should be the man to head up Celtic.
