Celtic fans aren’t convinced that keeping Mikey Johnston in the first team squad is the best move this summer, with a number of clubs willing to offer him regular football by signing him on loan this season.

The 19-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away from Celtic Park recently, with outlets like The Scottish Sun reporting that Scottish Premiership sides such as St Mirren were interested in his talents.

However, Brendan Rodgers appeared to rule out such a much last week, telling The Daily Record that “he is very much staying here at Celtic at this point in time”, taking the decision not to have him move imminently.

It’s clear that the winger is rated by Rodgers and the coaching staff at Celtic and with Lewis Morgan ruled out over the next few months after a knee operation then he might be needed.

Celtic fans though appear to be in favour of seeing him leave on loan, with 56% of respondents to a poll we published last week believing that sending him out on loan would be a good move.

There’s no doubt that a season of regular week-to-week action would do him the world of good, but does the manager feel that he might make that breakthrough at the Hoops?
