This should be a given right? The most skillful player at Celtic Park must be one of the most easy answerable questions amongst any of the Celtic fans.

When you look at the choices we have even then there should be only one name that jumps out at you.

Kyogo, Liel Abada, Tom Rogic, Matt O’Reilly and Jota are probably the front runners for that title but when asked on Celtic TV who he thought the most skillful player at Paradise was, Greg Taylor seemed to struggle with the answer.

And one of his two options may leave you surprised when you look at the list above.

During a small Q&A where he gives his opinion on various players at the club,  Taylor said after a wee bit of deliberation, “Mikey? Jota? Between one of those two?

“I think Jota just edges it with Mikey not too far behind.”

Now, this is not the first time I’ve heard this opinion on Mikey Johnstone to be fair.

But what is clear that whatever he shows in training, he can’t show it on the park when given the opportunity.

Wingers are confidence players. We all know that.

And what will leave the Celtic fans wondering is this.

If the decision to name Jota over Mikey really was that close, when are we going to see it on the pitch?

Just how good IS Mikey Johnstone? I hope we get to find out one day.

Given Taylor’s dismal ‘choices’ on the park against the Norwegian side, it’s hardly surprising that his deliberations on who is our most skilful player are equally wayward.
Granted, he may just have been diplomatic in his assessment but regardless of what Johnston may display in training, he never delivers where it counts – in actual games – whereas Jota is at a vastly superior level.
It baffles me as to how Johnston is being coached – he’s certainly a tricky player but constantly runs himself into blind alleys & has no end product. He holds on to the ball far too long & needs told to pass it much sooner. Change his game up & stop being so utterly predictable – all, of course, when he’s not laid up injured which appears to be his main position this last few years.
