The Celtic fan silent protests have caused a bit of a stir, and some division, amongst certain sections of the Celtic support.

With many fan media outlets, supporters clubs and fan groups all against the appointment of Bernard Higgins to a role within the club, the boards inability to communicate with the fans on this issue has led to the supporters to staging silent protests at games to mirror the silence of the Parkhead board.

The first two protests have already taken place and the suggestion is that if the lines of communication are not opened, more will be planned.

Commenting on this issue, journalist Hugh Keevins, was pretty damning in his views as he put across his opinion on the ongoing feud.

Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, Keevins said, “On top of all the problems that Ange Postecoglou has, when the support is involved in civil war with the club and decide not to support, because they’re only sitting there, the players suffer.

“I am of the belief that people always say, and the gentleman beside me here [Mark Wilson] that have played for Celtic, people always say, ‘No man is bigger than the club.’

“Well, for me, that means that no supporter is bigger than the club. So they’re only sat in there occupying seats.

“They are not supporting at all.

“When Ange Postecoglou and those players most need support, they’re not getting it.”

“You have a group of supporters who are, for me, trying to be bigger than the club.

“And you have these guys in the jerseys are suffering from severe shortage of players because of injury.

“They’re getting no support from people who are sitting in the ground, but staying silent. That’s not supporting.”.

“I certainly don’t think you [the board] should not go to them and apologise for what you’re doing.

“But I think you should go to them and explain what you’re doing.”

This is a pretty simplistic view to take on this issue.

Yes, we all know the support are there to cheer the team on, but there are other supporters in the ground that can help create the atmosphere.

The protest is there to make a point and it seems some, like Hugh, are just not getting it.

Again Keevins bumps his gums without finding out why supporters are staying silent, maybe if he stopped making empty statements do your homework before opening your big mouth

  • Joe says:

For the first time in his life, Keevins is actually spot on.
These idiots are a detriment to our club, not supporters!
