Celtic’s poor performance in the league has been caused by many factors. Players unavailable due to catching COVID, self isolation because of close contact with Jullien, injuries to key players and plain and simple the team has just been off form.

This latest reason, given live on air during Clyde 1’s Superscoreboard, is one that is so out there, so tin hat that you need to hear it to believe it.

A Celtic fan called the show after yesterday’s 1-1 draw with Livingston at Celtic Park to offer his theory on why things have gone so wrong, “I’m just another disgruntled Celtic fan, as it were, in this current climate. I grew up when Rangers were winning nine in a row in all that dominance I didn’t ever think that I would ever see that again.

“And to see Celtic winning nine in a and to see them winning a quadruple treble has been amazing. For me, the last two seasons have been very underwhelming. And the sense of exactly what came over club. I understand we won a treble last year, but let’s be honest that last season it took us six months to kickstart.

“People are hoping that this year on the six month mark that they would kickstart and it’s not happened. Do I believe that it’s down to Neil Lennon? I don’t. I believe that since Brendon Rogers last Peter Lawwell has only actually been interested in the actual running business of the club.

“I don’t think he’s been interested in what the fans want or what anyone wants in a sense of the Celtic family, and that’s complete success and domination. I think Celtic had the chance to bury the whole Ranges saga and Peter Lawwell is the guy that has let that slip. I felt that he felt that it is not good for business, Celtic without Rangers.”

When host, Gordon Duncan, pressed him, “Hold on. Let me get that straight so you think Peter Lawwell has willingly let Rangers come closer to Celtic because it’s good for business?”

The caller replied, “Yeah. I think it’s made his job easier in the fact that, economically, it will bring more money through the door because fans have more interest in it.”

The reply left the panel flabbergasted and to be quite honest it doesn’t quite hold up considering the tens of millions of pounds the Celtic board have thrown at the team in the bid to secure the “Ten”.
