Reports have emerged from Portugal that Celtic are interested in signing Honduran forward Alberth Elis. Elis has forty two international caps and is a close friend of former Hoops defender Emilio Izaguirre.

Celtic, amazingly, could have got Elis for as little as £1m back in July 2020 when he claimed that he wanted Izaguirre to recommend him to the Parkhead club. Speaking to the Scottish media back then Elis said, “When I first played for Honduras I asked Emilio to recommend me to Celtic. In fact, always ask him that!

“There are clubs who would be nice to play for because they are always challenging for titles and cups.

“I have spoken to Emilio about Celtic and he’s told me they are at another level.

“For me, since the day I left Olimpica, I’ve never hidden the fact that my dream is to go and play in Europe and compete in the Champions League.”

But the pleas fel on deaf ears and the Honduran ace eventually signed for Portuguese outfit Boavista for an incredible £1m.

But Portuguese media outet A Bola have reported that Celtic have rekindled their interest and that Boavista are willing to start the negotiations a t £10m for their star man.

Ellis has been in fine form for The Panthers as he made 31 appearances last season, scoring eight goals but also assisting in seven. Although there doesn’t seem to be  too much to the story that Elis wants away from The Panthers but with West Ham and Southampton interest also being reported. Celtic face stiff competition to get their man.
