Report – Dundee reveal Celtic influence as Taysiders explain withdrawn no vote

|

Dundee have released yet another statement prior to making their “official” vote after the debacle which emerged on Friday afternoon as reported by The Scotsman.

The Tayside club had been rumoured to be in the process of changing their mind and posting a yes vote but after Partick Thistle threatened legal action, they were forced into a press release that, in reality, said very little.

The article in The Scotsman includes the full statement from Dundee and in it they debunk the conspiracy claims that both Celtic and Rangers had approached them following their decision to withdraw their no vote.

After reflecting on their communications with clubs that face the prospect of relegation and the Dens Park preference of league reconstruction, they then revealed the involvement of either side of the Glasgow divide:

“Also, we are sorry to disappoint all of the conspiracy theorists by saying that we were never exposed to any ‘deals’ from either of the Glasgow giants. They both acted, as we would expect, with complete professionalism.”

There had been rumours of the club being offered “lucrative” incentives to make the yes vote that would ultimately see Celtic announced as champions.

The SPFL will be carrying out an internal investigation into the process that saw Dundee holding all the cards and in a position that put them front and centre in the negotiating process for the future of Scottish football and after the governing body announced that a yes vote had finally be made, the next step is reconstruction.

Nearly a week later and even though the vote has passed, the leadership displayed during the current situation has been amateur at best, unfortunately it has been a farce which is as unsurprising as it is embarrassing.
