After last night’s transfer ‘update’ from  Fabrizio Romano, Celtic fans are still reeling at the prospect of losing Giorgos Giakoumakis for just €4m.

The Greek striker is clearly on his way out of Celtic and that means that the club will need to step up and find a replacement for the international striker ASAP.

With the apparent deal for South Korean striker Cho gue-Sung going cold, there doesn’t seem to be much in the way of news of another incoming striker.

Until now.

And, to be honest, this is a surprising one for me.

According to a late-night report from The Sun, Hibs striker Kevin Nisbet is back on Celtic’s radar.

The Scotland striker has been in sensational form for the Hibees since returning from a cruciate knee injury.

Nisbiet has scored seven goals in six appearances for the Leith side and thirty-four in eighty-seven total appearances for the Edinburgh club. [Transfermarkt]

At just 25 years old, Nisbet does fall into the Ange Postecoglou bracket for signings. He is at an age where he has just enough experience but could also still develop.

My issue is this. If Ange is looking for an upgrade on what we already have, is Nisbet really any better than Giakoumakis?

In 243 career appearances, GG has scored just 83 goals. He really only came into goalscoring form in season 2020/21 when he was the Eredivisie top goalscorer and that has continued over the past two seasons at Celtic. He is clearly coming of age.

On the other side of that, Nisbet does only have 18 months left on his contract so wouldn’t cost the earth in terms of a transfer fee or wages.

But then, I suppose, if this rumour is true, in Ange we trust.

Call yourself a true Celtic fan? How well do you know the European Cup winning season?
