After the dust has settled on the Glasgow Derby it is amazing how the talk turns back to who the next Celtic manager should be.  With many names in the frame there is one that just will not die.  Not unless the pundits on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard get their way!

After the 1-1 draw with Rangers at Celtic Park, pundits Mark Wilson and Roger Hannah were discussing the next Celtic manager when the conversation turned to a familiar name, Eddie Howe. Long time pundit, Hugh Keevins suggested that if Celtic REALLY wanted Howe, he would be at the club already.

Programme host, Gordon Duncan, suggested that maybe he is assessing his options before he takes the plunge in case a job in the English Premier League became available.  This seemed to hit a nerve with ex Hoops player, Mark Wilson, when he retorted, “If that is the case then I would take him off the list.  Scratch him off the list! Celtic is a big job. If he has hesitation, that’s fair enough. But to drag it on this long, I don’t think you can leave a rebuild hinging on if Eddie Howe fancies another job down south”

Should Eddie Howe replace Neil Lennon?

YES

NO

Fellow pundit, Roger Hannah was also dismissive of Howe when he said, “Eddie Howe, I don’t know why but I can’t quite put my finger on it. I’ve never really seen Eddie Howe as a Celtic manager I have to say”

The exasperation on Wilson’s voice was evident for all to hear and in many ways he does have a point but, top managers will ALWAYS have options. Top managers will always assess what is at their disposal before making a decision. That’s what makes them top managers. They get the big decisions correct.

Whether Eddie Howe will be the next manager or not is really up to the board to make him an offer he can’t refuse but to write him off now? That in itself would be foolish!
