Shocking Celtic revelation details 35-year-old being offered senior role above Rodgers

|

Hoops assistant manager John Kennedy was offered the role of ‘Sporting Director’ before the departure of Brendan Rodgers at Celtic, as reported by The Daily Mail.

In a column written by reliable reporter Stephen McGowan, it has been revealed that the 35-year-old was in talks to take up the senior role at Celtic Park, effectively higher than Rodgers in the hierarchy, with the blessing of the now Leicester boss.

What the role would have entailed can only be speculated upon, but you’d imagine that Kennedy may have acted as a buffer between Rodgers and club chief executive Peter Lawwell, potentially replacing Head of Recruitment Lee Congerton.

Although Kennedy will now become assistant boss to Neil Lennon until the end of the season, it’s a very interesting insight into the direction Celtic are moving in.

Are we about to see a formal Director of Football model in place at Celtic Park?

Fans have been upset with the influence and role of Lawwell at the club in recent years in relation to the football department and many would like to see a proper football man be installed to oversee that side of things.

Is John Kennedy qualified for such a position though?

Interesting times ahead.
