Spartak troll Celtic in Twitter jibe

|

Yep, it’s another day, another COVID story relating to Celtic, but not one you would expect.Β  Spartak Moscow flew out their players today in to their winter training camp in Dubai and cheekily asked “We’re in Dubai.Β  Any tips @CelticFC?”

It was a clear attempt at humour following Celtic’s highly publicised trip to Dubai. Celtic stand accused of breaking COVID social distancing rules and face investigation from the S.F.A’s compliance officer, which could result in the Hoops facing a fine for any misdemeanours.

However, the tweet may have backfired on the Spartak twitter account as a tweet sent out earlier clearly shows the team greeting each other with handshakes and cuddles which is also in breach of the country’s social distancing rules.

Celtic’s Chief Executive, Peter Lawwell, has since come out and apologised for the trip and said, “With hindsight, looking at the outcome of the trip clearly it was a mistake – for that I profoundly apologise to our supporters.

β€œThe rationale for the camp was with the very best of intentions. Things haven’t gone the way we wanted them to and the outcome is clearly very regrettable.

β€œOver the past four years going to the camp in Dubai has been extremely successful. The decisions were made entirely for the best interests of the team and the club. We planned to take them to these facilities again, which are world class, after a very very hectic programme in November and December.”
