One of the big talking points coming out of Celtic’s impressive UEFA Champions League win away to Armenian side Alashkert was Jack Hendry’s readiness to continue to start in qualifiers heading deeper into the summer.

The 23-year-old has been utilised on the right side of defence, filling in for the absent Mikael Lustig who is resting after a big World Cup with Sweden.

Caught out early in the second half in Armenia, his error could have easily cost a goal and would likely have been punished against stronger opposition.

Against Standard Liege in a friendly yesterday, he again looked fair shaky in the first half and looks well below the standard set by the likes of Kristoffer Ajer in the defensive line.

Although it’s obviously silly to completely write off his Celtic career already after only joining in January, the option of a loan out for the season or a half season must be tempting. The Hoops can’t afford players not pulling their weight in defence.

Many agree with that assessment, with 49% of respondents to a poll we published last week believing that he should be sent somewhere else to continue his development rather than get more chances in the first team.

Is it time to sort out a temporary move for the Scotland international and sign a first-team ready defender?
