Dedryck Boyata was sent off for Celtic on Wednesday night for dissent, leaving many Celtic fans frustrated with his actions.
Appearing to claim for an almost meaningless free-kick in his favour, the Belgian international raged at referee John Beaton and was shown a rare straight red for words spoken.
Beaton appeared to given the defender a chance not have action taken against him, but he wouldn’t calm down.
Brendan Rodgers admitted after the match against St Johnstone that it was a stupid card to receive and his subsequent suspension now leaves the club short in defence for next month’s semi-final at Hampden against Hearts, which is obviously a huge amtch.
Many supporters felt that, while the referee perhaps overreacted by sending him off, Boyata’s actions were unnecessary.
Fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts in the aftermath of Wednesday’s clash…
Why are people moaning about the Boyata red? He’s warned him over and over and even said “I’m going to send him off” and he still goes on. Stupid move and can’t have any complaints.
