Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer has offered glowing praise to his captain Scott Brown after an important 1-0 win away to Kilmarnock on Sunday, as reported by The Daily Record.

The Hoops captain scored in the last minute, his second goal in a week, to sink Killie’s hopes of a point, moving us eight points clear of closest Scottish Premiership challengers Rangers.

Brown has been heavily criticised this season for a perceived decline in ability, but it’s clear he is as important as ever when marching towards multiple domestic trophies.

Ajer was quick to pay tribute after yesterday’s clash, telling The Daily Record:

What Broony says in the Huddle stays in the Huddle. But obviously we went into the game really up for it and wanting to get the three points. He was speaking all about the performance and getting the result.

That’s Broony scored twice in a week now. He’s delighted with that but he’s such an important player for us. To score the winner like that was just like him.

He was on a yellow card so when the fans came on to the pitch to celebrate with him you know there’s the rule. There can be no complaint about that at all but in the heat of the game you are just extremely happy to score the goal.

It’s clear that once again Brown is dragging us towards another league title. We now have a very healthy lead and with just 12 games remaining could not be in a much strong position.

There are tricky matches against Aberdeen, Hearts and Rangers on the horizon, but in this form can you honestly say you are worried about winning all three?

We haven’t conceded a goal to a Scottish team so far this year and that doesn’t look like changing anytime soon. Having players like the captain in the team pushing us towards victories is the reason why.
