The transfer window is a wonderful time of the year. Speculation of players coming in. Rumours of players leaving the club. Money money money.

With Celtic gaffer, Ange Postecoglou now seeing his Hoops in action for the first time since taking over the club, he will have been impressed with some of the quality he has at his disposal.

But what will also be glaringly obvious is the need to strengthen in key areas. One of those will be central defence where Superscoreboard pundit, Alex Rae, says is just going to get that bit more difficult.

Rae reckons that with Celtic apparently being ready to be offered £12m for the big Norwegian, the club should be biting hands off for that kind of money, “Let’s start with Kristoffer Ajer.  I think it’s important to try and get that deal done. He’s made it pretty clear throughout the course of the summer, there was an agreement last year he stayed for the extra year to try and get 10 in a row and it didn’t work out particularly well.

“So he had now will be looking to try and get that move that he was promised last year.

“There was reports, and I see the reports of twelve million pounds. If that was the case I would fire up the car now and drive him down there if I was Celtic.

“At the moment I think it’d be remarkable money to get that in the last year of his contract.”

There did seem to be hint of envy around the comment where the former Rangers man could barely believe that Celtic would get a deal close to that due to the length of time Ajer’s remaining on the big stoppers contract.

I agree with Rae by the way. If the club was offered that, I would offer to take Ajer to the airport for free. Not because I want rid of him, but that kind of money could help revolutionise the team by adding much needed funds to Postecoglou’s transfer kitty.
