There’s not many pundits that leave me feeling confused after they have made an observation either on a player, tactics or first team selections.

Former Rangers midfielder and now Superscoreboard pundit, Alex Rae, really outdone himself when he was giving his opinion on Celtic’s target Kevin Nesbit.

Celtic are apparently interested in signing the Hibs striker for £4m and speculation has been rife on the Scotland forwards future as teams from England and Russia circle.

Rae was in fine form (not sure this is the right descriptive) when he analysed Nesbit and Edouard’s futures as he spoke on the live radio show, “He (Nesbit) looks as if he’s going in the right direction. He came in last year  and there was question marks because he played most of his football in the lower levels.

“He’s come in and he’s did brilliant last year and scored on his Scotland debut as well. I think he’d be a good addition for Celtic, whether or not he would be the main number nine.

“Because if Edouard is going out the door and you replace him with Nesbit,  for me there’s a big gulf in quality there.  I look at Edouard and rate him highly I think he’s one of the  outstanding talents in Scotland.

“I think Edouard was one of the guys that wanted to go last year. So if he’s back in the building now it would suggest to me, having been in about dressing rooms, it says that he probably wants to go this year as well.

“So you have to try and get the best financial deal for Celtic and get him out the door. And if your replacing him like for like, I think that’s a step back.

“I think he’s a good player Nesbit, but you have to be trying to attract players of Edouard’s quality because one thing,  you have to and enhance what you had previously.”

So he’ll be a good signing and he’s a good player but it would be a step back? Yeah, I’m just as confused as you but I’m sure it made sense in Rae’s head.
