“That’s what we are trying to target.” – Postecoglou drops major January transfer hint

As the international break comes upon us, it gives the supporters and the manager time to look at the squad, see what’s went well and what needs worked on.

It’s clear to all Celtic fans that squad depth is a major issue and a couple of key first team ready signings are also required come January.

Celtic boss, Ange Postecoglou, has made no secret of the fact that he plans to look at the Japanese market in the winter window, but for what positions and who exactly is he keeping tabs on?

Postecoglou clearly has a good eye for a J League player as his capture of Kyogo Furuhashi has proven, but as he spoke to the media over the weekend, he gave little hints at to where he will be focusing his attention when it comes to winter signings, “There’s no secret we still need to add to the squad.

“We were never going to do it in one transfer window, particularly when you look at the significant exits we had over the past year.

“This was always going to be a two to three window process.

“We are looking at January at the moment. We know the areas we need to bolster up.

“That doesn’t necessarily mean adding experience, it’s about getting more players that I believe can play the type of football we want to play.

“There is a mentality that is attached to that but that’s not relevant to age or experience.

“It’s about the type of personalities we want to bring in, guys who really want to play the kind of football we want to play, who are going to be brave and really ambitious. That’s what we are trying to target.”

Postecoglou has called it right and it is not new news to us. This team was never going to be fixed in one transfer window.

If anything, I take heart from the fact that there does seem to be a plan to improve the team.

The board should take heed and start to put a plan in place for the future of our club.
