Celtic fans have been enjoying the free-flowing attacking football that Ange Postecoglou’s men have been delivering since the beginning of the season.

The team is seriously stoked with talented footballers, especially in the midfield areas and when you look at the attacking prowess and creativity in the team, you would automatically assume that players like Matt O’Riley and Reo Hatate would be the pass masters in the side.

Not so according to The Athletic stats.

The only midfielders that make the top 5 in pass accuracy are Callum McGregor (unsurprisingly) with an accuracy of 91.5% followed closely by none other than Aaron Mooy at 91.2%. Both have made seven appearances for the club this season.

The top outfield passer in the side is American central defender Cameron Carter-Vickers at 91.8% on six appearances. This is hardly a surprise as the team’s style at building from the back will help raise this average and the stats of Moritz Jenz (88.3%), Greg Taylor (83.3%) and Josip Juranovic (85.9%) all support that.

Surprisingly, Jota, Liel Abada and Matt O’Riley barely make it over the 80% mark with 80.4%, 80.9% and 80.7% respectively. The creative sparks in the team, I would have expected a higher average, particularly in the case of O’Riley and Hatate (83.2%).

Unsurprisingly, Kyogo and Giorgos Giakoumakis have the lowest passing accuracy stats in the side with 68.3% and 68.8% as it is their job to get on the end of passes rather than create them.

Interesting stats all-round and an eye opener that there are players in the side that deserve a lot more credit than they are given.

It’s the dreaded international break. So take away the boredom and try our *BRAND NEW* quiz. Who are Celtic’s most capped players from these countries?
