The incredible Billy Gilmour Celtic conspiracy put to bed

There has been a flurry of activity on Twitter since the news that Scotland star, Billy Gilmour announced he had contracted COVID and needed to self isolate for ten days.  With no other Scotland players required to self isolate as a close contact, you would say is good news yes? Not really if you live and breath in Celtic circles.

Most of the Celtic blogging world and fans were shouting conspiracy as soon as the news broke that no other Scotland players had to self isolate and many simply cannot believe that not a single player in the Scotland squad has been identified as a close contact, seeing as the squad is in a “bubble”.

With England players Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell putting themselves into self isolation as a precaution, this poured fuel on the conspiracy fires and it seems many fans want to know the answer as to why no one from the Scotland squad is named as a close contact.

Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, host Gordon Duncan, gave an explanation of why this is the case and it seems to exonerate the SFA from any suspicion or wrong doing, “The Scottish FA issued a statement saying that they’ve liaised with Public Health England, since the positive test and Billy Gilmour will now self isolate for 10 days.

“So essentially it’s kind of up to Public Health England. They’re the ones that have the discussion and various pieces of evidence will be put forward, and I know there will be a lot of speculation.

Should Leigh Griffiths be given another chance at Celtic?

“And you know what social media is like and there was a video on Instagram of Andy Robertson playing table tennis with Billy Gilmour in the vicinity.

“But bear in mind the guys were in England. So there is a one metre social distancing requirement. Now to breach that you have to be within the one metre, for a period of 15 minutes or more.

“So, basically, the Scottish FA are confident everything’s been covered in that respect. Public Health England clearly agree.

“At these tournaments, you’re usually rooming with someone and you’re stuck with them for a couple of weeks. But because of COVID at the moment the players are all rooming on their own to limit these types of things and in that respect, if any good can come from this, it is good news that there are no other close contacts.”

I have a feeling however that this will still not satisfy the Celtic fans who are in no mood for excuses after witnessing a raft of first team Celtic players being required to self isolate after Chris Julien’s brush with a positive COVID dianosis.
