The Jack Hendry story is a weird one for me. The clamour for everyone to pelt the board with bricks over the Oostende loan deal certainly is strange seeing as almost every Celtic fan, pundit and reporter deemed him not good enough to wear the green and white hoops.
A player clearly more comfortable and suited to play for an underdog team, like Oostende or Dundee (and Scotland) where the demand to win is nowhere near as high as it is at Celtic Park, Hendry flourishes in these kind of teams where you can make a mistake and not be under the microscope.
So when it was revealed that Celtic had a clause written in the loan contract that Oostende could buy the towering defender for £2m if they so wished, I would be willing to wager that almost all of the above named would have said that was a great deal?

Fast forward one season, in a mediocre team, Hendry plays a blinder and all of a sudden we seem to be letting the next Virgil Van Djik leave for pennies? Nah, not for me.
Go Radio pundit, Davie Provan has hit out at that decision to insert the clause and said that Hendry would be perfect for the new Celtic boss. But with Oostende taking up the £2m buyout option, he reckons the Belgian club are in for a massive payday, “Oh they’ll make a fortune on him. They’ll flip the deal. And given that Postecoglou, who, by all accounts is a manager who wants his defenders to bring the ball out from the back, Jack Hendry would have been right up his street.”
I’m not convinced. I still maintain Hendry is an average player that cannot cope with the demands of a team expected to win every game. Expect him to have a great Euro’s because no one expects, or demands, Scotland to qualify from the group. Which is right up Hendry’s street.
