You would think that in the run-up to Europe’s biggest club competition every coach and player would be doing their homework on every one of their opposition teams.

Tactics, style of play and most dangerous player are just a few of the components that should be studied to ensure that you go into the match as best prepared as you can possibly be.

So that’s what makes Real Madrid attacker Vinicius Junior’s comments all the more surprising.

As reported by The Daily Record, Junior, who was purchased by Madrid for over £38m [BBC] said of tonight’s tie, “Celtic are very strong, they run very hard.

“To be honest, I’ve not seen many of their games and I should probably watch some more before the game.

“But we are going to turn up and play our own normal game and it’s the other team that has to adapt to us, we are not going to change for anyone.

“I absolutely love playing in a packed stadium with a lot of pressure on me. That’s what we like doing at Real Madrid.

“So hopefully, we can perform and come away with a victory.”

What a bizarre admission to make.

Does that mean that the Galacticos think all they need to do is turn up and they’ll take all three points back to Spain?

Have Madrid, in their preparations for the match, made their first mistake of the week and underestimated Ange Postecoglou’s side?

I certainly hope so.

Junior may not have watched much of Celtic play this season, so let’s hope the Bhoys send him back to Spain minus the three points and with a bruised ego to boot.

  • Magublican says:

He basically says what Ange says about Celtic. “we are not going to change our game”. AND continues….HOPEFULLY!!! Come away with a victory. When Ange says it, it’s fine. Stop reading through fanatical glasses.

I don’t know how you interpret that from the statement from the Real Madrid player!
You don’t get to be as successful as these guys by disregarding opponents!

Maybe this line Joe “To be honest, I’ve not seen many of their games and I should probably watch some more before the game.”
Which to me infers he hasn’t done his homework.
