The transfer stories are coming thick and fast these last few days with Jota and Cameron Carter-Vickers dominating the headlines.

With announcements on both these fans favourites expected real soon, we now look to other positions in the squad that are key for Ange Postecoglou to strengthen for next seasons challenges of Champions League group stage football.

One of those positions that have been identified as an area of opportunity is the left back position.

Celtic were ‘expected’ to land Mohanad Jeahze, but that move does seem to have went cold.

But it was news from the English second tier that sparked my interest.

Lee Buchanan is a player that has been continually linked with the Hoops and with his contract expiring, coupled with the financial problems at the Pride Park club, Celtic were tipped to land the 21 year old for a cut price deal and take advantage of the cross border rule that has served the club so well.

News filtered through yesterday [Derby Telegraph] that the English League One side have activated a one year extension on Buchanan’s contract where the report also claimed that our club, along with various other English sides, where still keen on the 21 year old.

I personally thought interest in the youngster was dead after the January window closed and although the extension does seem to have nailed that move as unlikely, it is only a one year extension.

Could interest be reignited in the winter window?
